WMD Commission to Testify Before House Armed Services Committee
Testimony to Focus on Nuclear Threat
WHAT:
The congressional commission charged with investigating weapons of mass destruction (WMD) proliferation and terrorism will testify regarding its findings in front of the House Armed Services Committee on Capitol Hill on January 22. Congress established the bipartisan Commission to build on the 9/11 Commission’s work and assess our nation’s progress in preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and terrorism and provide a roadmap to greater security with concrete recommendations for improvement.
The Commission examined the government’s current policies and programs, identified gaps in our government’s prevention strategy and will recommend ways to close them. Since May, the Commission has interviewed more than 250 experts inside and outside government, held eight major Commission meetings and one public hearing. The group will present key findings and answer questions regarding its work. In this particular hearing, the commissioners will focus on the nuclear threat to both the United States and the world.
