Graham and Talent Issue Report Card Grading Government on Protecting the United States

Former Senator Bob Graham (D-FL) and former Senator Jim Talent (R-MO), chair and vice chair of the bipartisan Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism, issued a Report Card, evaluating the government’s ability to protect the United States from the threat posed by WMD and terrorism.  Nearly a decade after September 11, 2001, the recent Christmas Day bombing attempt underscored the urgent threat to the United States posed by terrorism.

The Report Card assesses U.S. government progress in such areas as the biological threat, nuclear weapons proliferation, government reform, and citizen participation.  In addition to the unveiling of the Report Card, the event included Carie Lemack of the Families of September 11, whose advocacy led to the creation of the WMD Commission and has helped ensure that the United States learns the lessons of that tragedy.
